What is C.A.R.E for Youth?
C.A.R.E (Community Advocacy Reaching Equity) for Youth is a coalition of non-profit agencies focused on keeping At-risk minority youth from entering the Juvenile Justice System. We focus on minority youth because statewide statistics show that a disproportionate number of minorities are represented in Oregon’s Juvenile Justice System.
For example, here are the youth populations who are at times more likely to enter the Juvenile Justice System:
Black youth are 2.8%
Native American youth are 1.7%
Latino youth are 1.3%
A community coalition created the C.A.R.E for Youth program to reduce minority contact with our Juvenile Justice System.
